Waymo's Autonomous Cabs Planned for London Streets in 2026.

The US-based firm Waymo has declared that its driverless taxis will be available for hire on London's thoroughfares starting next year.

London Becomes Leading European City for Self-Driving Ride-Hailing.

The UK capital will be established as the first European city to host an self-driving taxi service, similar to those currently in use in San Francisco and four other American cities using Waymo's cutting-edge systems.

First Testing Phase to Commence with Trained Operators.

Waymo stated that its vehicles are now en route to London and will begin operating on the capital's roads in the near future with trained human specialists behind the wheel.

The company – initially created as a offshoot from the tech giant's self-driving car project and belonging to the larger corporate umbrella – indicated it would expand services and work closely with the government transport body and the city's mobility organization to secure the required licenses to offer totally self-driving trips by 2026.

Waymo presently has ties to the UK after launching its first European engineering hub in Oxford in 2019.

The company is also starting offerings in Tokyo using Jaguar Land Rover eco-friendly cars, marking its second existing project outside the US.

Waymo launched its self-driving taxis in 2020 and now states it has served more than a vast number of riders in the US.

Despite some alarming incidents, Waymo indicated that evidence demonstrated that vehicles driven by drivers were involved in accidents that hurt walkers significantly more frequently than its autonomous fleet.
