Prince William Set to Attend UN Climate Conference in Brazil

The Prince of Wales is scheduled to attend the United Nations climate conference in Brazil during November, as announced by royal officials.

Prince William and King Charles made a joint appearance on Thursday evening at a gathering leading up to the environmental conference, which is planned for in the northern Brazilian city of Belém.

The King and Prince were present at the Natural History Museum reception, marking an unusual joint appearance at a climate summit preparatory event arranged together with the British authorities.

Climate Leadership Commitment

The King has been a longstanding advocate of protecting nature - and Prince William has taken on the baton, with his own Earthshot awards, which will be hosted in Rio ahead of the climate conference.

Official representatives have described William's involvement at the forthcoming conference as taking on an significant responsibility in "global climate discussions".

Previous Activities

The monarch and his heir, arriving together in the royal vehicle, were introduced to guests including environmentalists, researchers, climate change campaigners, foreign representatives and government officials.

This participation involved presentations together with French leader Macron of France and other international figures at the Blue Economy and Finance Forum in Monaco during the current year.

Earthshot Awards Connection

The COP30 summit will coincide with the William's personal Earthshot environmental awards, which will finish in Rio de Janeiro the previous day he attends the COP summit on the sixth of November.

Last week the William characterized the Earthshot finalists as "contemporary champions".

Monarch's Environmental Record

The monarch has been a influential participant at earlier environmental conferences, giving the opening address in the United Arab Emirates for COP28, including the observation: "We are custodians of the planet, not its owners".

"Throughout my life I've dedicated a substantial portion of my life trying to warn of the existential threats challenging our world over climate change, climate change and biodiversity loss," the King told attendees.
