Former FBI Head James Comey Files Not Guilty Plea to Allegations of Lying Congress
Former Federal Bureau of Investigation chief James the ex-FBI chief has denied the charges to providing misleading information to lawmakers and hindering a congressional proceeding.
Mr Comey's legal representative entered the response acting as his counsel in a national courtroom in the Virginia city of Alexandria on Wednesday morning.
His attorney announced he would attempt to have the proceedings thrown out for several causes including that his the accused, a critic of President Donald Trump, was being targeted.
The former director was indicted soon after the former president pushed his top legal official to move forward against him.
Court Developments
During the hearing on mid-week, his attorney Mr Fitzgerald told the judge they planned to submit various legal requests to throw out the legal matter before a legal hearing, claiming the government's case was vindictive and that a government lawyer was wrongfully appointed to handle the proceedings.
Mr Comey's legal matter was originally handled by the original attorney, who resigned under influence from the former president after his investigation into a different rival - the New York official - was unable to initiate prosecution.
Courtroom Atmosphere
James Comey appeared in positive mood as he came into the legal venue on Wednesday, chatting with his lawyers and sharing humor. He was accompanied by his spouse, Patrice Failor and offspring his daughter, a government attorney who the previous administration dismissed.
Upon hearing to the court recite his legal protections and the dual charges against him in court on Wednesday, James Comey was asked if he comprehended the accusations.

Previous Events
Mr Comey was the FBI Director from four years and was terminated about a few months into Donald Trump's first term as national leader. At the moment, the director was directing an probe into foreign election meddling and whether there were any connections between the Russian government and Trump's campaign.
Throughout his leadership, the director sparked a counter-response from liberal politicians when he declared just days before the national vote that he was probing Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton's use of a non-governmental email account. Indictments against Clinton were not pursued, resulting in disapproval from conservative politicians as well.
Ongoing Accusations
Prosecutors claim Mr Comey lied to US lawmakers during a congressional hearing in September 2020 when he was being examined about both the previous examination as well as the election interference investigation. They allege he provided false information to the Senate by stating he had not approved a person at the agency to disclose to journalistic entities details about the agency probes.
Legal representatives also accuse Mr Comey of "improperly attempting to sway, hinder and slow" the legislative group by providing untrue information to it.

In a video James Comey published to his Instagram after he was indicted, he stated he was innocent and alleged Donald Trump of acting like a "autocrat".
"My family and I have known for a long time that there are costs to challenging Mr Trump," he said. "We choose not to live on our bended knee."

The charges against James Comey surfaced after Donald Trump shared on digital channels calling for his chief prosecutor, the attorney general, charge James Comey and additional individuals.
